4th Lexington District Two school moves to remote learning due to COVID-19

Wood Elementary will make the shift for two weeks starting Thursday, September 2.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A fourth Lexington School District Two school has temporarily moved to remote learning as the district continues to deal with a rise in both COVID cases and quarantining.

The district said Wednesday afternoon that Wood Elementary will make the shift for two weeks starting Thursday, September 2 and ending on Wednesday, September 15.

The district said the decision involved both the impact of the virus on staff, students, and safe school operations, as well as trying to find substitutes.

"We already had a number of Wood classes in quarantine," Superintendent Dr. Nicolas Wade said. "As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly one-third of Wood students were positive or in quarantine, along with a number of staff out for illness and quarantine."

In addition to no in-person class, there will be no athletics, clubs, activities, or other events.

Last week, the district announced three other schools--Cayce Elementary, Northside Middle, and Pine Ridge Middle--were temporarily going to remote.

And they're not the only district dealing with the problem. Three Lexington One schools have moved to e-learning, and Clarendon School District Two is moving all schools to remove starting next week.
