SUMTER, S.C. — A trip to the veterinarian's office recently turned into a windfall for a South Carolina woman who arrived early for her pet's appointment.

South Carolina Education Lottery officials said a woman was taking her dog to get medical attention in Sumter when she decided to use some of her spare time before the appointment to visit the Food Lion on North Guignard Drive and buy a lottery ticket.

She purchased a $5 Monopoly card in the store and scratched it off. At that point, she told lottery officials she almost passed out upon learning she had won $200,000, beating one in 720,000 odds.

Ultimately, officials said the woman's trip to the veterinarian's office was followed by a trip to Columbia for the money. Now, she tells them she's debt-free. She told lottery officials that this was the best thing that's happened to her "in a long time."

The Food Lion store also received a nice prize in the event—a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. Currently, no more top prizes remain in this game.
