South Carolina primary runoff election results: Here's who won

Voters spent Tuesday making their selections for the state legislature and a coroner's race.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — News19 will have live, real-time election results throughout the night for the 2024 South Carolina Primary Election Runoffs in South Carolina, as voters wait to see who won a series of key races in the state.

Polls closed at 7 p.m. statewide and then elections official tallied the votes for the contests.  Among the big races on the ballot were the State Senate District 23 Republican race between Katrina Shealy and Carlisle Kennedy, the State Senate District 22 Democratic contest between Overture Walker and Ivory Thigpen, and the the Orangeburg Coroner contest with Sean Fogle and Montez Haynes.

The primary was held back on June 11 but runoffs were necessary in a number of races because more than two people were in those contest and no candidate got at least 50 percent of the vote.  The top two vote getters advanced to the runoff, and the winner of Tuesday's runoffs is the party nominee and will be on the ballot in the general election in November.

However, that's not the case for every race. In some contests, no member of the other party sought  that office, which means barring a write-in campaign, the winner of the runoff is the presumed winner of that race. That's the case for the State Senate 23, where no Democrat is running, and the Orangeburg Coroner race, where no Republican filed to run.

Overall, News19 was tracking 10 races Tuesday, including nine races in the Midlands and the one remaining U.S. House District contest in the Upstate for the District Three Republican nomination.

Here are the results of multiple key races in the Midlands and South Carolina. Check back throughout the night as these numbers will be updated.
