GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies are investigating after a body was found in the water near a small community in Georgetown County on Sunday.
According to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the body was found around 3:45 p.m. in a river near Sandy Island. Maps show that various waterways surround the community, including the Great Pee Dee River.
The sheriff's department said its marine patrol, Midway Fire Rescue, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Georgetown County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
Authorities haven't identified the deceased or suggested a cause of death. The sheriff's office said it would release more information as it becomes available.
