Fatal pickup truck crash on I-77 in Richland County leaves one dead near Columbia

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A driver has died following an interstate crash in Richland County that happened on Friday night.

Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8:45 p.m. on I-77 near the intersection with Hardscrabble Road north of Columbia. Bennett said a 2022 Ford F-150 was heading north on the interstate when it went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch and then a tree. The driver was taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital for treatment but died.

The Richland County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the victim's name. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, officials said.
