Camden-area man killed in Friday night Kershaw County crash identified

The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Friday night, authorities said.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified a man who died Friday in a crash in Kershaw County.

According to Lance Corporal Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 10 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 521 (Kershaw Highway) near McLeod Road north of Camden.

Butler said a 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck was heading north on U.S. Hwy. 521 when the vehicle left the road to the right and overturned. The driver was the only occupant and died at the scene, officials said.

Kershaw County Coroner David West said 71-year-old Robert "Bobby" Jones Jr. of the Camden area was the driver and was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, officials said.
