Columbia Water repairs to temporarily close portion of Main Street beginning Sunday

Authorities didn't have a timeline for the repairs but urged the public to be patient

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Drivers in the heart of Columbia may need to detour on Sunday due to planned work by the water department.

According to Columbia Water, the 1500 block of Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. that day. Columbia Water didn't announce what work was underway and said the roads would be closed while crews make "necessary repairs and any updates."

The department didn't announce a timeframe for the work but said it would provide updates as the work progresses.

A spokesperson for Columbia Water apologized for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and asked the public to be patient. The department directed additional questions and concerns to the Columbia Customer Care Center, which residents can reach at 803-545-3300.
