Pedestrian killed in Saturday night crash identified; SCHP investigating

The Lexington County Coroner's Office said the driver initially left the scene but came back Sunday morning to report the crash.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified a pedestrian who died after being struck by a car on a Lexington County road on Saturday night.

Lance Corporal Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 10:30 p.m. on Old Cherokee Road (Secondary Highway 408) near Maxey Road. Butler said a 2020 Kia Forte driving on Old Cherokee Road when it traveled off the right side of the road and struck a pedestrian who was walking in the same direction alongside the highway.

Butler said the pedestrian, identified by the Lexington County coroner's office as 51-year-old Steven Ezell Christopher, died at the scene. The coroner's office said the driver initially left the scene of the accident and returned on Sunday morning to report the accident.

Butler said the driver and passenger of the Kia were not injured.

The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
