Five arrested after shootout near Pelion; no serious injuries reported

Authorities said a victim also fired back at the suspects from the home, and a victim's car hit one of the suspects.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Five people have been arrested after a shootout near Pelion on Saturday night.

According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, the shooting happened at a home in the 400 block of Otis Road. Sheriff Jay Koon said five men, 27-year-old Austin Michael Easterling, 20-year-old Brendon Charles Ray Parcell, 24-year-old Garvin Lee Parcell III, 21-year-old Damon Smith and 23-year-old Keeley Edward Smith, showed up at the home armed with handguns and some of the suspects opened a closed gate before walking toward the house while the other suspects stayed in their car.

The sheriff's office said the victims were leaving the home in a car when the suspects began shooting at the car and the home. The sheriff said the victim's car hit one of the suspects, and another victim returned fire from the home.

Despite the exchange of gunfire, Sheriff Koon said there were no serious injuries, and no one was struck by a bullet. He said four of the suspects were arrested shortly after the shooting, and Easterling was arrested on Wednesday.

All five have been charged with four counts of first-degree assault and battery, discharging a firearm into a dwelling and criminal conspiracy. The Parcells and Smith have been released on bond, and Easterling is expected to appear in bond court on Thursday, the sheriff's department said.
