Suspect in Garners Ferry Road apartment shooting arrested, charged with murder

Authorities said a fight preceded the shooting.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police have arrested in connection with a deadly apartment shooting in Columbia on Thursday evening.

According to a statement released on Friday, 50-year-old Pedro Leon-Rodriguez was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following a shooting that happened at Garners Crossing Apartments in the 7600 block of Garners Ferry Road.

Authorities said that just before 8 p.m., Columbia officers arrived at the apartment, where they found a 33-year-old man who had been shot and later died. Further investigation and witness accounts determined the shooting followed a fight between the two men. Deputies took Leon-Rodriguez to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains as of Friday afternoon.
