RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A man has been arrested after authorities say he threatened to kill someone while wielding an ax and a knife - then attacked the victim's truck.

According to an incident report, the Richland County Sheriff's Department said deputies were dispatched to Roosevelt Jacobs Road in Eastover on Monday, where they met with the victim. According to the report, the victim told deputies he was getting in his truck when another man, 20-year-old Preston Jahvis Rivers IV, came up to him "in an aggressive manner with a knife and an ax in both hands."

The report states that Rivers told the victim "he was going to kill him" and proceeded to hit the side of the truck with both the knife and the ax. The report states that deputies set up a perimeter around the area and searched for Rivers but didn't find him.

Rivers was later arrested on the charges of attempted murder and malicious injury to property. He was also charged with other incidents from 2023, including grand larceny and failure to stop for blue lights in July and a shoplifting charge in December.

Rivers was still detained Thursday evening at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
