Second arrest made in death of 16-year-old in Sumter County

The investigation began on September 3, 2024, when six juveniles were fired upon while in a car and a 16-year-old was wounded and Jayvion Jones was killed.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A second arrest has been made in the in the September 3, 2024, shooting incident that left one 16-year-old dead and another 16-year-old injured in the Dalzell community.

Henry Jahlil Brown, 19, of Sumter is charged with murder, five counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle while occupied and possession of weapon during a violent crime. 

The investigation began on September 3, 2024, when six juveniles were fired upon while in a car and a 16-year-old was wounded and Jayvion Jones was killed.

Officers said the shooting took place in the Dalzell community on Sept. 3. The coroner's office said 16-year-old Jayvion Jones of Hampton, Georgia, was found dead around 8:30 p.m. inside a vehicle on Black River Road and Edens Road. Another person was also found with a gunshot wound there and was taken to the hospital. That person is expected to make a full recovery.

Jonathan Brown, 17, was taken into custody on September 11 and is charged with murder, five counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle while occupies, trafficking in fentanyl, possession of a stolen pistol, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age, possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
