Pursuit in Richland County ends in crash; no injuries reported, officials say

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Richland County Sheriff's Department have called in outside agencies to investigate the pursuit.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — On Saturday, an attempted traffic stop by highway patrol led to a two-agency pursuit in Richland County.

According to a Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, deputies were called in to assist the South Carolina Highway Patrol after a state trooper attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle sped away around 4:30 p.m.

Authorities said the pursuit began at Forest Drive and Percival Road and ended with a crash in the Winslow subdivision off Clemson Road about 15 minutes later. According to the sheriff's department, no injuries were reported.

Due to both agencies being involved in the pursuit, an outside law enforcement agency was called in to investigate. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating where an unoccupied vehicle was hit. No one was injured, and authorities are still looking for the owner.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol deferred to the investigating agency. At the time, no details were available regarding what charges led to the initial stop attempt or what the driver would face after the pursuit.
