NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — Organizers of a prominent bass fishing competition on Lake Murray have released an update regarding a boat crash during a practice round for the event on Thursday.
According to officials with Bassmaster, the boats were practicing ahead of the Bassmaster College Series, where 244 boats were registered to compete. Three of four anglers were taken to the hospital after the crash between the two boats. The organization announced on Friday afternoon that two of those three had been released from the hospital.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources hasn't said what they believe led up to the crash but said it happened in an area known as Little Gap near Dreher Island.
"B.A.S.S. continues to gather information on the incident and remains in contact with local authorities," the organization said.
The completion officially began on Friday and continues into Saturday.
