COLUMBIA, S.C. — 'Meet me at the rocket' is more than just a catch phrase for the South Carolina State Fair. It also serves a purpose. Family members who get separated at the South Carolina State Fair are directed towards the rocket for a reunion.
Nancy Pitts has worked in Guests Services at the South Carolina State Fair for over thirty years and says it is easy for families to lose each other at the fair.
"It's a good service and we reunite families all day long," said Pitts. “They just get separated when it gets real crowded. That's so easy to do especially when a child gets off of a ride, there is so many people around, they can't find their family."
Christina Davis is a parent and says that the rocket is a prime meeting location as it is well known to fair goers.
"I think it's important because there is a lot going on at the fair and it's known to everyone,” said Davis. “So, like you lose your child, everyone knows the rocket is the place to meet up so they can help get your child there safely.

Ashley Petrarca is a parent of three little kids at the fair and says her kids know to meet at the rocket incase they get separated.
"I've actually heard it a couple times today,” said Petrarca. “And that makes me feel reassured that god forbid something were to happen, they would know where to go."
It costs fifty cents to page a family member at the South Carolina State Fair and the proceeds go towards the state fairs scholarship funds.
