KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have made two arrests in what they're describing as the attempted robbery of a mail carrier in Kershaw County.
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to Cleveland School Road near Camden on Tuesday regarding the attempted robbery of a U.S. Postal Service Letter Carrier. The victim told investigators that while he was delivering mail, a red vehicle stopped in front of him, and a male brandishing a firearm approached and demanded items from him.
According to the sheriff's office, the victim stated he didn't have the items the suspect wanted, so the suspect got into the passenger side of the red vehicle and left. Investigators later identified the suspect vehicle as a red Dodge Charger. On Thursday, the department said deputies spotted the car and made a traffic stop; a search led to items investigators believe linked it to the attempted robbery.
The suspects in the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Daquan Mekel Wilson and a 17-year-old, were arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery, possession of a stolen firearm, criminal conspiracy and financial transaction card theft, with more charges possible. The sheriff's office said both suspects are from Prosperity.
The sheriff's office said Camden Police officers and the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office helped in the investigation.
