Fatal stabbing in Sumter investigated as 'domestic-related' incident

Sumter Police are still investigating the circumstances of the stabbing.

SUMTER, S.C. — Investigators are interviewing a woman after a deadly stabbing in Sumter on Friday morning.

According to the Sumter Police Department, officers responded to the incident near Broad Street and Broad Court around 3 a.m. and found 52-year-old Joseph Marion Croft of Camden Highway dead on the road.

Investigators said they were approached by a 34-year-old woman involved in the stabbing. She was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and is being interviewed by detectives, police said.

Authorities haven't named the woman or announced whether charges are pending as they continue looking into the circumstances of the stabbing. Authorities described the incident as "domestic-related."

The coroner's office has notified Croft's family, police said.
