UPDATE: Missing teen in Sumter found dead

Police have made one arrest in the case and are searching for a Clarendon County man who faces a murder charge.

SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter Police say a search for a missing teen in Sumter has come to a heartbreaking end.

Authorities said 15-year-old Derrick Wilson, who was reported missing on Wednesday after leaving a relative's home on Meadow Circle the previous day, was found dead of a suspected gunshot wound on Thursday near the corner of Hoyt and Wilson streets.

Police said Wilson got into a car with two people and left the home. Authorities have since arrested 17-year-old Jaylen Hammett on a charge of accessory before the fact of murder. Investigators in Sumter and Clarendon counties are searching for another suspect, 20-year-old Ja'Hugh L'Goeshay Brukale Martin of Manning, who faces a murder charge and, according to police, potentially others.

Anyone with information about the case can call the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
