COLUMBIA, S.C. — The family of Zelig Williams, a Broadway dancer missing in South Carolina, said they have hired a private investigator to assist in the search for him.
Chandra Cleveland said Tuesday she's been retained by the Williams' family to help in their search for the 28-year-old Williams, who was last seen at his home on Longwood Road in Columbia back on October 3.
Meanwhile, sheriff's deputies are set to hold a news conference Wednesday morning along with the family to talk about the case.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department, which has been investigating the case, said they were told about his disappearance on October 4. The family told them it was out of character for Williams to go an extended period of time without contacting them.
According to investigators, Williams was last seen driving in the area of the Congaree State Park. His vehicle The vehicle in question was found in a parking lot for the Wateree Passage off the Palmetto Trail, which is near the park.
There's added concern from his family and law enforcement because Williams does not have his required medication.
Cleveland said he'd recently returned to the area to teach dance lessons. She added that the family wants to hear from anyone who may have seen him on the morning he disappeared. She added the family told her Williams is very involved in churches in the area and may have joined a men's group, so it's possible he may have visited area churches.
Williams performed on Broadway in "Hamilton" and "MJ: The Musical." His story has begun to gain national attention, including from actor and Broadway performer Hugh Jackman, who worked with Williams in the past. Late last week, Jackman posted on Instagram stories, "“Zelig we love you and are praying for your safe return."
