The key race was for President in South Carolina, with former President Donald Trump squaring off against Kamala Harris. (Although there were additional candidates on the ballot, they never reached above the low single digits nationally). Trump won the state the two previous presidential contests in the state by over 10 percentage points.

With no governor, constitutional officers, or U.S. Senate seats up, the state lacks statewide races. The only one other than President is proposed amendment that instead of staying "any" U.S. citizen could vote in an election it would state that "only" a U.S. citizen could.
All seven U.S. House races were up as well as every member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and South Carolina Senate. Of those, a contest in Richland County for House District 75 between incumbent Democrat Heather Bauer and Republican former representative Kirkman Finlay garnered a lot of attention--as well as advertising dollars.
