FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina coroner has released additional information about a fire and reported explosion at a mobile home that left one person dead on Thursday afternoon.
According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Gilbert Drive. He said neighbors reported hearing an explosion and ran to the scene to help the residents, only to find the home engulfed in flames.
Von Lutcken said the Florence and Windy Hill fire departments and fire marshals responded to the scene. First responders reported multiple injuries and later confirmed a death. The deceased, 50-year-old Ellen Boyce Greene of Florence, was found in a bedroom shortly after firefighters arrived.
The coroner said an autopsy is scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina on Saturday. His office and the Florence County Sheriff's Office are still investigating the incident.
