Tragic accident in Fairfield County: Motorcyclist dies, another hurt in crash with pickup

The Fairfield County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the name of the deceased rider.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — One motorcyclist is dead, and another is in the hospital following a Friday afternoon crash in Fairfield County.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of US 321 and SC 269 (Hinnants Store Road.)

Ridgeway said two Harley-Davidson motorcycles were traveling south on U.S. 321 when a 2016 Dodge pickup truck attempted to enter the road. Ridgeway said the motorcycles struck the truck, sending both riders to the hospital. One of them later died. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The Fairfield County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the name of the deceased rider. The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
