Teen identified as pedestrian killed in crash along Woodtrail Drive in Lexington County

Authorities said the pedestrian died at the scene of the crash.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Officials have released the name of a teen pedestrian who died late Saturday night after being struck by an SUV in Lexington County.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Woodtrail Drive near Meadowfield Road west of Gaston. 

Ridgeway said the crash happened when a 2004 Dodge SUV was traveling on Woodtrail Drive and struck a pedestrian, later identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as 17-year-old Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez of Gaston. Fisher said the victim died at the scene. The driver remained at the location and wasn't hurt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
