Mainly sunny today, but moisture increases over the weekend

Some of the storms over the weekend could be strong or even severe.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — We will enjoy mostly sunny skies as high pressure remains over the region. However, changes are on the way as a cold front approaches from the northwest, bringing increased moisture and the chance of rain over the weekend.

For today and tonight, the weather will stay mostly dry, with any showers expected to remain west of our area. A weather system is moving from the Midwest toward the Great Lakes, while the high pressure over our region weakens slightly.

Although conditions will become more humid, rain is not expected in our area today. Temperatures will be warm, reaching around 90 degrees during the day and dropping to the low 70s tonight.

As we head into the weekend, expect an increase in rain and thunderstorm chances as the cold front moves closer. On Saturday, the front will approach from the west, leading to isolated storms, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Some of these storms may be strong, with the potential for damaging wind gusts. Temperatures will remain in the lower 90s during the day, with overnight lows in the lower 70s.

On Sunday, the front will move into our area, bringing another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Like Saturday, there is a chance that some storms could be severe. Temperatures will stay consistent, with highs in the low to mid-90s and lows around 70 degrees.

Mainly sunny skies today with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Have a great day.

Looking ahead to early next week, the cold front may stall near the coast, leading to cooler temperatures and isolated rain chances, especially near the coast. By Monday, the front will begin to move eastward and may slow down near the coastline.

This will bring slightly cooler and more comfortable temperatures, with highs in the 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s. While most areas will stay dry, there's a slight chance of isolated showers, mainly in coastal regions. This pattern is expected to continue through Thursday.
