CAYCE, S.C. — Cayce Police are still searching for a man who attempted to assault a woman at Guignard Park early Friday morning.

Investigators were called to the park after a man armed with a gun, described to have been wearing all black clothes and a red mask covering half his face, attempted to assault a woman at the park at around 7:15 a.m. Friday before running away.

Police were on foot and in cars patrolling Guignard Park Saturday afternoon to ensure parkgoers like Patsy Huggins felt safe.

“I was surprised because I've never had any problems here. I come pretty often,” Huggins said.

Huggins said Guignard Park is her favorite place to come and take a peaceful walk with her family. She hopes investigators find the man involved.

“I hope they find someone who dared to come to the park and try to intimidate folks," she said. "Because, as I said, this place is generally a safe place to walk."

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said the police need help with their investigation.

“The best thing that people can do right now is, if they live within a 10-block radius of the park, if they have any security cameras, to call us and let us know, even if they have nothing on there," Partin said. "That's helpful to us because it helps us learn more."

Although the City of Cayce is warning people to stay vigilant around the park, the mayor wants people in the area to adopt Patsy Huggins's fearless spirit and continue enjoying the city’s parks.

Police have brought out a K-9 and attempted to track the suspect. Authorities said officers are still heavily patrolling the area and have asked the public to assist with any information about the attempted assault.

The department urged the public to report information to Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or call Cayce Police at 803-794-0456. Any doorbell camera or security video is also welcome.
