Kershaw County victim dies weeks after crash

Authorities said a pickup truck was pulling out of a private drive when it was hit by an SUV and caught fire.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say one person has died weeks after the crash that injured them in Kershaw County.

According to Master Trooper William Bennett, the crash happened around 9:10 p.m. on March 16 on Sanders Creek Road near the intersection with Equestrian Drive - roughly six miles from Camden. Bennett said the crash occurred when a westbound 2006 Jeep SUV struck a 2008 Toyota pickup truck that turned out of a private drive onto Sanders Creek Road.

Authorities said the Jeep ran off the road to the right, hit a mailbox, and overturned. The Emergency medical services took both occupants for their injuries. The Toyota pickup truck caught fire. Both Toyota occupants were also taken to the hospital. The driver was later taken to The South Carolina Burn Center in Charleston and died on April 3. The Kershaw County Coroner's Office has not yet identified the deceased.

Bennett said the crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
