Coroner identifies 59-year-old woman killed while crossing Aiken road

The crash happened late Saturday night. The victim was taken to an area hospital but died less than an hour later, officials said.

AIKEN, S.C. — Authorities are investigating after a woman was struck and killed while crossing the street in Aiken County on Saturday night.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office said the crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Laurens Street near Peach Orchard Place. Corner Darryl Ables said the victim, 59-year-old Terri Long of Aiken, was crossing Laurens Street when she was hit by a northbound vehicle. Long was taken to Aiken Regional Hospital but died from her injuries around 9:30 p.m.

The Aiken County coroner and the Aiken Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash. A toxicology analysis is pending for the victim.
